Rehearsals are underway for one of our favorite performances of the season! The ACO is once again partnering with The University of Texas at Austin for the 8th Texas Rising Stars concert at Bates Recital Hall.
Enjoy a free performance on April 2 at 7:30 PM from the talented young winners of the Butler School of Music’s String Concerto Competition with accompaniment by the orchestra, as well as a special opening performance of Overture to “West Side Story” by the ACO.
The full program will include:
- Bernstein/Peress: Overture to “West Side Story”
- Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, Allegro non troppo, featuring Dongsub Jeoung on violin
- Chausson: Poème for Violin and Orchestra, Op.25, featuring Nick Hammel on violin
- Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D major, Finale: Allegro vivacissimo, featuring Josh Liu on violin
This collaborative concert between the Butler School of Music and Austin Civic Orchestra was conceived by Butler School of Music Professor Brian Lewis and is funded in part by the David and Mary Winton Green Chair in String Performance and Pedagogy. In 2019, this year’s guest artists won the competition as freshmen, but the COVID pandemic postponed their performance until this year.
Since 2013, the ACO has been privileged to perform with 26 rising stars during their time in the Butler School of Music, and it has been wonderful to watch as many have gone on to successful careers in education and performance. This year’s hour-long concert will be a real musical treat with polished performances from the violin repertoire.
Please note: Tickets are recommended, but not required. Face masks are also recommended, and we encourage you to refer to our website for the latest updates on our health and safety guidelines.
