DESCRIPTION:Join the Austin Civic Orchestra at Bates Recital Hall at the University of Texas at Austin for its final formal concert of the 22-23 season. Music Director Dr. Lois Ferrari has chosen the powerful Symphony No. 5 by Dimitri Shostakovich for her final performance as music director of the ACO\, a position she has held since 2002. \nPaint to Music is a pre-concert event at 6:45 pm in room 2.610 where a slide show of the artwork created by area students will be presented. \nAfterwards\, in the Recital Hall\, the orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 as the sole selection on the concert. \n\nSHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 5 in D minor\, Op. 47\n\nModerato\nAllegretto\nLargo\nAllegro non troppo\n\n\n\nThe ACO continues to embrace the classics as well as explore the future. In order for classical music to truly realize its potential as a relevant and important art form it must embrace its future as much as its past.
