Dr. Gabriela Mora-Fallas, Guest Conductor and Music Director Finalist

The Austin Civic Orchestra continues its 2026–27 season theme, Journeys of Wonder and Beauty, with the third of four Music Director finalist concerts. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Gabriela Mora‑Fallas to the podium for a program that explores imaginative, emotional, and artistic journeys, offering vivid contrasts in style, color, and energy.

The concert features Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Augusta Holmès’ La Nuit et l’Amour, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Joan Tower’s Purple Rhapsody for viola and orchestra, James Newton Howard’s Fantastic Beasts, Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, and Gershwin’s Cuban Overture. Beyond the Familiar brings together composers from different backgrounds, generations, countries, genres, and musical traditions to challenge and expand the way we experience the world around us.

As an added bonus, the evening opens with a performance by the Austin Soundwaves Chamber Group, comprised of area high school students selected and coached by Austin Soundwaves staff.
