Celebration of John Williams
Dr. W.P. Sterneman III, Interim Music Director
Date: June 11 and 12
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Zilker Park Hillside Theater
About the Event
Each year, the Austin Civic Orchestra hosts a free pops concert in the park, and we’re thrilled to return to the Zilker Hillside Theatre in 2027. Audience members are invited to bring a blanket or low chair, along with children, neighbors, and dogs, and relax on the hillside while enjoying a performance by the musicians and friends of the ACO.
Program Highlights
This annual free outdoor concert celebrates the iconic film music of John Williams, who marks his 95th birthday in 2027. The program features beloved selections from:
- Star Wars
- Jurassic Park
- E.T.
- Superman
- Jaws
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- Additional well‑known scores
These familiar works create an inviting, family‑friendly experience that resonates across generations.
As a cherished tradition, we conclude the concert with Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, conducted by a lucky winner drawn from the audience. This winner could be you!
Community Experience
Presented in one of Austin’s most beloved public spaces, the concert offers an accessible cultural event that celebrates shared memory, cinematic storytelling, and the joy of live orchestral music.
Support the ACO
Please consider making a donation when obtaining a ticket. We work to keep ticket prices low and depend on individual contributions to help us continue bringing concerts like this to the Austin community.
This project is supported in part by a grant from the Austin Parks Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
