Get Involved

There are many ways in which you can be a part of ACO’s mission. Come and explore the various ways you can get involved!

Volunteer

The Austin Civic Orchestra has grown tremendously over the last four decades. As the ACO continues to grow, so does the need for volunteers. Examples of volunteer opportunities include soliciting donations, selling advertising, selling tickets and merchandise during concerts, and preparing for receptions. To become an ACO volunteer, please email us at info@austincivicorchestra.org.

Donate

The Austin Civic Orchestra has grown over the past 40 years into one of the largest civic orchestras in the country, thanks to the support and dedication of our patrons. Our commitment to keeping ticket prices low has made classical music accessible to central Texas, which is how we want to keep it. Donations by individuals and corporations are vital to the operations of the Austin Civic Orchestra.

Auditions for the ACO

  • Open positions are announced in June.
  • Auditions are held annually in late August.

Admission to the orchestra and seating placement depend on the results of the audition rubric and will be announced by the Executive Director.

Please note:  The Austin Civic Orchestra is a volunteer organization. Although several of our members are seasoned professionals, the majority have careers outside of music, and no one is compensated for their performances. Additionally, it’s essential to know that members are required to pay dues to participate in the orchestra. The dues for the upcoming season are $100, but there are options available to complete ACO-related tasks instead of paying this fee.

The ACO rehearses on most Tuesday evenings at the Austin High School Band Hall for two hours.

Composition Competition

The ACO believes in the cultivation of new music and giving up-and-coming composers the opportunity to have their music performed. Every two years, composers from around the world submit their compositions for the opportunity to have their piece performed by the ACO in one of their regular concerts and the cash prize of $1,000.

This contest is on hold until after the pandemic has passed. Please stay tuned for news of our next contest.
