Paint to Music: Shostakovich 5

Join the Austin Civic Orchestra at Bates Recital Hall at the University of Texas at Austin for its final formal concert of the 22-23 season. Music Director Dr. Lois Ferrari has chosen the powerful Symphony No. 5 by Dimitri Shostakovich for her final performance as music director of the ACO, a position she has held since 2002.

Paint to Music is a pre-concert event at 6:45 pm in room 2.610 where a slide show of the artwork created by area students will be presented.

Afterwards, in the Recital Hall, the orchestra will perform Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 as the sole selection on the concert.

The ACO continues to embrace the classics as well as explore the future. In order for classical music to truly realize its potential as a relevant and important art form it must embrace its future as much as its past. With this in mind, the ACO will maintain its commitment to experiment with programming that presents beloved classics alongside new and/or eclectic works, some of which might be considered off-beat, cross-genre, or even radical.
